Houses
Queenstown Primary School Houses connect with Papatūānuku across our local mountains, water, plants and animals. We celebrate the diversity across all four Houses with the phrase ‘Ngā hau e whā’ – people blown in from everywhere meeting here.
When children are enrolled at Queenstown Primary School, they are put into House groups with their siblings.
There are 4 house groups:
- Rata (Whero / Red)
- Kawarau (Kahurangi / Blue)
- Tahuna (Kowhai / Yellow)
- Kahu (Kakariki /Green)
Houses are split into 2 groups when students attend EOTC house days at the end of term 1 eg: Rata A and Rata B, Kahu A and Kahu B.
House competitions are run throughout the year. At the end of each term, the winning house group are rewarded with a fun activity. Other fun house activities and/or Mufti Days are organised by school leaders throughout the year to celebrate learning or support various causes.
QPS has competitive house sports with trophies awarded to the winning house.
- Term 1 – Athletics
- Term 2 – Swimming
- Term 3 – Cross country
- Term 4 – Tri-athlon
There is a Lunchtime Sports House Competitions in a variety of sports and activities. Trophies are also awarded for these sports and activities.
