Uniform Brief

As part of the rebranding process of Queenstown Primary School, the Board agreed to explore the option of a compulsory uniform for all students. This was a high priority of parents who completed the 2009 Parent Survey and results showed a preference for a compulsory rather than an optional uniform.

A Uniform Committee was formed from parents and Board members and our aim was:

• A good quality uniform
• Competitively priced
• Ability for PTA to run sales in conjunction with supplier
• Comfortable, stylish and durable
• To provide our children with a sense of identity
• To be in uniform and recognisable when representing QPS at events
• A distinguishing option between the school and our Year 7/8 students

Community Consultation

Following significant feedback from the Return to School Evening, we worked with local and national suppliers who provided us with a variety of options to consider. Following a number of meetings it was decided to create a brief for suppliers to submit their products to us. We narrowed it down to three local suppliers and Impact are now our chosen supplier.

Parents have also been updated regularly in newsletters regarding the uniform proposal and an email contact for comments was established via a link on our school website to submit their feedback. Thank you to the large number of parents who provided us with comments.

We are pleased to present the uniform options as set out in the catalogue. We are really pleased with the selection, quality and pricing of uniforms that have been put together by Impact.

Purchasing Options

• During shop open hours ( Fridays 3-4pm, Room 5) at Primary School with manual order form, (cheque or cash)
• You are able to order directly at Impact when school shop is not open
• Order on-line through Queenstown Primary School Uniform website
• Orders can be collected 10 working days after payment of order from the office.
• If there are any items that need to be returned, they need to go to Impact within 5 working days in original condition.
• Secondhand uniforms - this will be developed over time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the uniform compulsory?
The uniform will be compulsory for students Year 0-7 from the beginning of Term 1, 2011.

The uniform will be voluntary for Year 8 students in 2011.

The uniform will become compulsary for ALL students from the beginning of Term 1, 2012.

We encourage students to start wearing part or all of the uniform from Term 3, 2010. This allows parents to stagger the costs, ready for 2011.

What is the cost involved
The items are all competitively priced (see price-list) with most items under $50.00. The committee have worked hardto keep the prices competitively low.

How much will it cost me to get the basic items?
Our aim is to fit a child out with a polo shirt, skort or pants and fleece for just on $100.00. (Other primary schools in the area range from $35 - $50 for a polo shirt)

Can I mix and match the uniform?
Yes. Your child can choose between the skorts (girls only) cargo shorts, 3/4 pants and long pants and then the polo top and fleece/merino. We are still to finalise how we use our sports uniform, however at this stage our thinking is to keep the sports uniform for those occasions where your children will be presenting QPS outside of school and sporting events

Can my child just have a fleece or just a polo for now?
Yes, you can purchase as few or as many items of the uniform as you would like for now and start building up to having available for your child a full uniform by Term 1, 2011.

When can I buy the uniform?
Every Friday a ‘shop’ will be operating from Room 5 between 3-4pm. Please bring your child to try the items on for size and either place your order with the staff at the shop and pay by eftpos or take your form home and complete your order online.

Where do we get the uniform from after initial purchase?
The school shop will continually be running in Room 5 every Friday or you can order online at any time via www.queenstown.school.nz

How long will it take for delivery?
The items will take 10 working days to be delivered. They can be collected from the school office.

A courier option is available for a small charge of $3.00

What about shoes?
We envisage that children will have black shoes for winter and black sandals for summer. Hannahs, the Shoe Clinic, Front Runner and Rockies have all been advised that we are having a uniform and will have a range of shoes available.

What about a winter item for the girls?
Our young girls are able to wear either a skort with tights or have long cargo pants for winter. The can also wear navy poly pros under their uniform.

What size range is available?
Sizes range from 4 through to 14. If you require sizes outside of this range please contact Brigit at Impact who will assist you with this.

Where do I get navy tights, socks and poly pros from?
We have worked with our supplier Impact to have available a selection of navy tights, socks, navy poly pros for you to purchase when placing your uniform order. Other options for purchasing are H&J Smiths along with The Warehouse, Postie Plus and Rockies.

Do I have to buy the sports uniform?
The sports department will hold a supply of sports uniforms that will be lent out to students when they are representing the school at external events. This can also be purchase if you wish for your child to have their own.
