As a school we work to provide our children with a positive, quality, learning environment in which they are secure and successful. Queenstown Primary School values the individual everyone working and learning within this environment is important. We aim to foster in our children a positive attitude towards learning, pride in performance, respect, honesty, tolerance and a desire to achieve excellence.

We aim to provide child centered learning with an emphasis on mastering core numeracy and literacy skills in all students and teaching in-depth, interesting and relevant inquiry based curriculum topics that motivate students.

We have a large number of initiatives to cater for student needs. The school is currently the lead school for the M.O.E., I.C.T teaching and learning professional development programme. The school also employs a Japanese teacher.

Queenstown Primary School has excellent Outdoor Education programmes. Before they go on to high school, our children will have learnt to swim, ice skate and ski. They will have explored the walks and activities in the local area with their parents during outdoor education week, and camped away from home at least three times culminating in a five night stay at Stewart Island. School assemblies, musical productions, choir, dance and ‘Art Auctions’ are continuing to maintain a strong emphasis on the arts in our school.

The School has 26 classrooms. We have a purpose built library owned by the community, a large hall with a basement meeting area, and a heated 15-metre swimming pool. The grounds are large with a landscaped frontage. There are two adventure playgrounds, one with paraplegic access and excellent playing fields. The over code buildings and the adventure playgrounds were built with community support.

Queenstown Primary School has coped with strong growth and prides itself on being both flexible and innovative. While being a large school we aim to have a friendly welcoming, environment where children are happy and secure.
