Quality Perseverance and Success at Queenstown Primary School
Book week is one of many highlights in the Queenstown Primary School Calendar. As you might expect, it is a celebration of anything and everything to do with books.
2010 may well have been the best ever, with each and every one of the school’s six hundred and sixty six pupils thoroughly enjoying the traditional book week activities. This year these included a mask competition, dress up character parade, visiting authors (local writer Kate Moetaua and UK writer Dennis Hamley) and an enthralling performance by the Queenstown Sheakespeare Society. The week always culminates with the ‘Book Bus’ tour as part of the Queenstown Winter Festival Parade. This year the school is celebrating winning first prize for the best community float!
Principal John Western was delighted by the efforts of staff and pupils, saying “We talk a lot about quality, perseverance and success at our school and this prize epitomizes that – we worked really really hard to produce quality art work for the parade and we got the success we deserved. Everyone is thrilled.”
The prizes awarded to the school were worth in excess of $5000 and will help the school with its ongoing fundraising efforts. The school were also eager to thank Margaret and Neville Bryant for their continued support and generosity.
Prizes included vouchers for: Ballarat Trading Co, Winnies, Skyline Gondala, Kiwi Birdlife Park, Real Journeys excursion, Shotover Jet, Alpine Aqualand, UPix, Milford Discovery Centre, Top Blokes functions and Mediaworks advertising, as well as a ski helmet, basket of “Cookie time” cookies and a seasons pass for Cardrona.
